GROWSMART IMPORTANT RULES, ELIGIBILITY & DISQUALIFICATION CRITERIA

RULES:

  • Participation in the Literacy, Story Writing and Mathematics competition is compulsory for all participating schools.
  • Learners may not compete in Growsmart unless their parents or legal guardians have signed the Growsmart Indemnity and POPIA forms. These forms are available on the Growsmart registration and enrolment platform: https://growsmart.browniepoints.africa/
  • Should a learner compete in more than one subject or has previously participated in Growsmart, the learner will be disqualified.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Schools are selected by the WCED for Western Cape, ECDoE for the Eastern Cape and Dwarsrivier for Limpopo, only schools that have registered may participate in the Growsmart Education Programme.
  • Each school will select learners from Grades 4, 5, and 6 to represent their school in the Growsmart competitions.

DISQUALIFICATION CRITERIA:

  • Learners or schools will be disqualified from the programme for the following reasons:
    • All competition rounds take place on a Saturday. Principals should confirm in advance with the mentor(s) that arrangements have been made for your team(s) to be accompanied to each competition round.
    • If the mentor is unable to attend, please make sure that a substitute teacher is available to travel with the participants.
    • If a learner has competed in any previous Growsmart competition.
    • Failure to enrol learners for the Growsmart competitions on or before the deadline date provided.
    • If the same learner has competed/enrolled for more than one Growsmart competition i.e., a learner who enrolled and or submitted for the Story Writing competition cannot compete/enrol for the Literacy competition or any other Growsmart subjects.
    • Failure to inform your Growsmart coordinator in writing of any changes pertaining to learner enrolment.
    • Failure to submit Story Writing entries by the deadline date provided or if any competition entry is found to have been copied, adapted or plagiarised.
    • In the case where there is a legitimate reason for not being able to participate in a competition round and to avoid a two-year suspension, the school must communicate their reason for non-participation to the Growsmart programme coordinator, 24hours before a competition round.
    • Irresponsible use of data/router provided to your school.
    • Continuous lack of cooperation from a school or participants selected to be part of the Programme.
