Lutho Ngweventsha was one of the Growsmart team members from Beacon View Primary School in Mitchell’s Plain. Their team achieved fourth place in the 2013 Growsmart literacy competition and each of the team members were ..given the opportunity to apply for scholarships.
“We went to CPUT to write the test in September 2013, and I passed. We were allowed to apply for different schools and I was accepted at Mondale High,” he says. “I was glad because it is a good school and close to where I live, so it will be easy to get there every day. Mondale was among the top 10 schools in the Western Cape last year, so I know I will do well.”
The scholarship, which was awarded by Saili, will pay for Lutho’s fees for his entire high school education. It will also provide him with his uniform and stationery. Lutho has a passion for science and maths and wants to study engineering so that he can work at SKA SA one day. “The Growsmart competition was tough, but it taught me to never give up and to believe in myself. If you believe, you can achieve. I know that is true,” he says.
